"Ornament" from the Latin word,
Ornamentum, and from the French word Ornare. I don't know if those clever Germans came up with something else or not. I think it comes from the pig latin, bushbashalini, which is OK with me. Pretty cheeky of them to invite her to the party just to rebuke her. I doubt she was crushed emotionally. I can see her smile.

She expected this reaction.

But at the same time she was honored to be invited and disappointed at being dumped.

Book group meeting is this Sunday
(Pearl Harbor day) I imagine we'll talk about it then.

"Husband" & "Dog" will work for synonyms as well one would think. "Froo-froo" is yet another, from the French. "Sheintite" would be a Yiddish word for it. "Babushka" would be a Greek one. "kindacute" would be Brooklynese. "pieceofshit" would be an Art Buttkus
term. "Petropocket" would be a Bush term. "Cornballcrap" would have been my first wife's term, my practice wife, Renea. "Sweetundlow" could be Austrian for it. "Nicating" would be Italian. "Mushiemushieboom" would be the Japanese term. "Verdamya" the Russian.

Hallo, Lane!
The German word for ornament is "Schmuck", which, I think, is also the American "idiot(ic)", which certainly also fits!!

Hallo, Arthur Dent!
"Verzieren" auf Deutsch is "to bend something out-of-shape", so your name, Dent" is, also a "Verzierung" of sorts!
Tschüß,
Anonomann
P.S. The commenter "Wolfgung" is a "schmuck" in the American" use of those 7 letters!

My interpretation of the word is "decoration" or "ornament".
Applied to a person indicates "uselesness"
Someone who should just stand aside and try to look pretty.
