Sonic boom

It occurs to me that the 24 hours of solid thunder, lightning and heavy rain occurred
pretty close to the instant the deal with the Sonics was settled.
I wonder if Sherman had anything to do with it.
I've always thought that such things as rain dances were mythology.
Not having television or newspaper editors to write opinions to, these things were just a way to pretend to have control over the inevitable misfortunes of life.

Sorta like our "election dance" where we pretend to elect the people who take our money and give it to their friends.

Or TV shows like "West Wing" where we pretend that the people we are herded into "electing" are decent, honorable and, even a bit competent.

But it appears I'm wrong.

Mr. Alexie obviously has a strong and effective link with the "I'm really pissed about this" God.

We get to keep the name however.
I think we should give it to Sherman.
As a gesture of love and affection.

The Basketball team bought the name from the 50's rock group.

Imagine it;
The Seattle "Nirvana" a grungeball team.
The Seattle "Presidents of the United States of America" a mud wrestling team
The Seattle "Seattle Symphony Orchestra" a nerfball team.
The Seattle "Rossis" a tennis team.

I could go on, but I am capable of compassion.

Anyway, It's the fourth of July.
Independence day.
Where we celebrate the day we ended the oppressive government, religious, and social prejudices of English rule and created our very own oppressive government, religious, and social prejudices.

Or as Sherman might think of it, "The party's over" day.

Always remember;
It's not the length of your life that counts,
what counts is the life of your length.

*laughter* You are spot-on, Doug! But it's so much fun to "pretend" we really matter in the scheme of things; that the elite really care about our welfare; they "really" are trying to lower gas prices, lower food prices, lower our standards..opps, let that one slip in..my bad. But you get the drift.. *laughter*

You mean you're of the mind that we're undergoing a deliberate lowering of our standards to third-world country levels so the elite guard can continue to control us?!?! Why, I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell ya! I never thought of that! *snicker* hee hee just kidding.. Why don't we start a campaign to Haul the Nincompoops outta the Hallowed Halls of Congress, tar & feather the 'astards, then put them in stocks to futher humiliate them in public?! Oh! That's right. They won't be humiliated or shamed. They have their anti-shame shields on, I forgot. Oh well. Another good idea down the drain. ;>

Your several references to Sherman Alexie made me head back to his website, and check out his latest antics. There was an interesting article on him published in England in THE GUARDIAN. I posted it on FFTR.

WEST WING did a lot for re-establishing some limited credibility to the political process. I watched it finally just as it was completing its last season, and then taped a bunch of them in rereuns. Like THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT with Michael Douglas, or DAVE with Kevin Kline--we would all like to believe that out there somewhere is a clear thinking, honest individual who will make a decent President. But then I have friends who are still Bush supporters, who think Obama has "socialist" ideals. November is on the horizon. Obama has stirred up the youth, but too often they do not turn out for the actual vote. I fear we will have McCain in the White House, and at least four more years of Bush Wars and Republican fascism.

This was the first Fourth of July that Melva and I have been in town for in many years. Usually we are still out on our Summer road trip. But gas prices cut down our drive to just a few days. We went to a wonderful pork ribs BBQ at some friend's home. I bought them a flag at Fred Meyers, and it flies valiantly from their deck post now.

How great to see Janet Leight surface and comment. I guess she and her hubby fixed her hard drive problems.

Glenn
