And we're off !

First off, I'd like to thank all the dead people who comment on my site.
Some are even contributing poetry.

CUSTER'S LAST STANZA

I was the last man
standing, even though
I knew what awaited.

My locks were as golden
as the braidwork on my
uniform, only longer.

Though Crazy Horse was
taller than me, he still
cut me down.

I rode astride Comanche,
but mostly it was the Sioux
who pierced my veil.

Arrowheads hurt a hell
of a lot more than bullets,
believe me.

George Armstrong Custer

Second off, I finally remembered where I got that bit of music I talked about yesterday.
It's from a Beyonce song about fingers or something.
I remembered the descending scale as from a Stones song about 19 nervous breakdowns.
But also from some Nutcracker and many others

So, anyway, I spent two hours yesterday trying to fashion my own descending scale and chordal version of same into something brilliant for cello and orchestra.

I got a minute and a half out of it, then went back and listened to the Viola concerto. Which still sounds great to me.

Upon returning to the cello piece, I noticed that it was incomprehensible gibberish.

Which was kind of disappointing.

But the first bits usually are, because I'm basically just jotting down notes without any solid idea what the thing is going to turn out to be.

Lots of work ahead.

Third off, I'm off.

Going out to buy stuff with Meredith.

WE want to thank you, Sir Savant. Without your sterling blogsite, without your garrulous and charming humor, wit, and wisdom, all of Cyberland would be no more than a meaningless void.

But actually, Doug, all this warm fuzziness does not get you off the hook for not recognizing my birthday this month.

In case you are fuzzy on my date of entry to this plane of existance, it was January 27, 1756. This year my birthday falls on a Tuesday--in case you are planning a tribute, or some such nonsence. Christ, Palmer, I wrote over 600 successful pieces of music. What does it take to get a nod from you?

Who would have figured that Custer could have become a poet? Thanks for posting his first freshman efforts. I did the same for him on FFTR. Hope he appreciates it.

You seem to have adjusted well to the retirement and now constant presence of Ms. Meredith. You are so very adaptive to your environment, sir.

I love it when you let us in a bit to your creative composing process. It humanizes that which is alien to most of us--no not Lane Savant, composing music. Alex gives us a peek now and then as well. Makes me all atingle. Curiousity makes me constipated.

I drove into Tacoma last night for a Producer's Committee meeting. The three films for February will be RESERVATION ROAD in theaters, and FAR FROM HEAVEN, and THE MAN IN THE GRAY FLANNEL SUIT on DVD.
We should get a bellyful of the suburbs by then.

I am getting heavy duty into Native American poetry, wisdom, and history over at FFTR. I get off on these jags, enit?
