On this day, I woke up on the Gulf Coast of Texas, smelling the eggs and ham my mother-in-law, Lucille, was whipping up in her 83 year old fashion. She made me some "Christmas Punch", a kind of pineapple juice laced with Sprite and God knows what, cuz she knows I like it. Overcast, warm, muggy, and humid, with a nice wind blowing in off the Gulf. We visited the country graveyard where Melva's father was deposited in 2002. He had perfect timing, dying two days before Christmas, while the whole family had flown down there to celebrate.
