Splog

Got in a good ride today.
A trip around half of Lake Washington. Down around Renton airport
Then up the Lk Wash trail to I-90 lake to lake trail which is part of the 100 mile
"Mountains to sound" (or something like that) trail.
Then across the floating bridge to Lk Wash Blvd back to Rainier Beach.

So anyway;

Distance, 24.1 miles
Time, 2:21:20
Average speed, 10.2 miles per hour
Maximum speed, 36.9 miles per hour
Total miles since I got the counter, 314 miles.

All on a bowl of Cheerios and a package of Top Ramen

All three of my daughters used to love Top Ramen. They would eat it for lunch and snacks. The stuff seems kind of plastic to me. Now Cheerios, that is more my style. Did you have any fruit in it, like bananas or strawberries, enit?
You certainly know how to carb load before you punish your old body, dude.

I have very active on Janet Leigh's blogsite these days. She has a quite a truck load of fans and friends and commentors; much like yourself. Actually, she does get a lot of traffic. She has been more a regular contributor and commentor on FFTR these days, and promises to check in here as well. By the way, sir, you do not seem to have noticed the "new" sheen and look of FFTR. I busted my hump to get up to speed on the 374 postings, giving them all pics as headers.

It is certainly nice to have Alex back on her island for the time being, until next month when she hits the road again. When will you hear about your Minnesota win, and big trip?

I seem to have caught the latest cold that is going around. It hit me at my low point a few days ago, post-treatments. Say le vey, nez pah?

It was still only like 45 degrees here, with some showers and some sun breaks. You must have had a oouple of hours of nice weather to have jumped Fidelio's bones, and rode him/her so hard yesterday. Where the deuce can you get up to almost 37mph?

Dearest Doug:

Today is Earth Day, and this month is Poetry Month. You seem negligent in mentioning more about either; although by getting out in the fresh (hack, cough) air there along the lovely Lake Washington, pumping Fidelio for all its worth, is “kind of” celebrating in a green way, getting closer to Ms. Nature. This would be a good time to put forth a few of my poems, don’t you think, dear?

ADVENTURE most unto itself
The Soul condemned to be;
Attended by a Single Hound—
Its own Identity.

II
THE SOUL that has a Guest,
Doth seldom go abroad,
Diviner Crowd at home
Obliterate the need,
And courtesy forbid 5
A Host’s departure, when
Upon Himself be visiting
The Emperor of Men!

EXCEPT the smaller size, no Lives are round,
These hurry to a sphere, and show, and end.
The larger, slower grow, and later hang—
The Summers of Hesperides are long.

FAME is a fickle food
Upon a shifting plate,
Whose table once a Guest, but not
The second time, is set.
Whose crumbs the crows inspect, 5
And with ironic caw
Flap past it to the Farmer’s corn;
Men eat of it and die.

Please pay attention to the last poem. As your own personal fame grows in stature as a composer and poet, I fear that all that adulation might go to your head, and it could spoil the fine gentleman that you have always been.

FFTR is looking sharp.
From the corner of Redwing to Lk Wash bvld is where the speed takes place.
No fruit, just a couple cups of pure processed white sugar, yum, and some milk.
I'm not going to win the Minnesota thing. I'll hear about ti in one of the "J" months, I suspect.

Everybody I know has that damn flu like cold or whatever it is.

Emily, so good to hear from you, I know that earth means a lot to you.

I don't think that I need to worry about fame.

I remember, when I lived in L.A
I used to live on Mexican TV dinners.
They cost something like 39 cents.
I could get a weeks worth for 5 bucks.

Later, when I lived in my Queen Anne house,it was Rice-a-Roni.

Now, I have to come up with "interesting, healthy and nutritious" meals for my family.

I'm not sure this is progress.

Hallo, Lane!
I miss the super-delicious enchiladas my Santa Monica Aunt Elizabeth made when I lived in LA; they were far tastier than anything frozen then heated on a microwave. LL would also never microwave anything.
