Good choice for a Saturday
morning wake up; has a real
Dr. JOHN feel to it, rife with
Cajun blues, touch of zydeco,
and it really moves--although
twice it seemed to wind down,
even stop, only to jump back up
and slam some more jam. Do you
have all 12 of his studio albums.
I first heard about Don as Capt.
Beefheart from you in 1966,
and never fully appreciated his
music, thinking he was just a
silly copy of the Frank Zappa
style of music; but it appears
Van Vliet was quite the innovator,
and a successful painter since
the 80's; died of MS, wheelchair
bound, a brother in autoimmunity.

The Captain was the best; the best thing Zappa ever did was to produce Trout Mask Replica. Points of view with this sort of originality are rarely seen; that he got it out in a way that is just now being really appreciated is even rarer and damn lucky in this unlucky age. The captains 12 records are gems, the bootlegs are even cooler. He played the showbox in Seattle on his 40th birthday (on the u tubes somewhere) and greatness happened again. RIP in striped light!
