Then we

Went to a "modern art" museum across the road.
I was not impressed.
But, so what?
There was this nice "water feature"
After which we walked back to the train station.
Spent some time in the plaza across the street listening to some nice South American music featuring a kid on a flute with the usual percussion and guitars
Strolled through the stalls of the street vendors at the Pueblo de Los Angeles.
I guess it's something like our Pike Place Market only outside and Latin-flavored.
Spain was here first.
By quite a bit.
Some of the Spanish architecture we visited on the trip was here before
"I Puritani" landed at Plymouth rock.
Then we got on the train to sleep (try to) our way to Flagstaff.

See you on the morrow

Your "Day in LA" begins to remind me of several old Gene Autry movies, with the phony and real Spanish and Mexican motifs, and the smell of fried dog tacos being vended on the streets. The South American flavor must have been a nice adjunct. Considering the time you spent at the Civic Center touring the Disney Concert Hall, and these side trips--how many hours lay over did you have in LA? You stayed the night at the Metro, and then boarded the Flagstaff Limited late in the afternoon?
You haven't mentioned how you felt about the LA train station. It is one of the most interesting pieces of architecture downtown, certainly nicer than the bus station, enit?
