Happy birthday to one who was not mentioned on your list... to one who is just a few months younger than I... to one who may now tap into social security benefits and take the ferry for a reduced rate!!!! I hope it was just ducky and that the year ahead is full of good stuff! From an old broad on SJI to an old duffer in Seattle....

Yeah, a bit martyrish not to mention this year when your very own birthday was; sometime in March I suspect. We all had a ballyhoo on your last birthday. That's when I looked up your special day on line and informed you about all the other celebrities who shared the day with you, and all the great world events that have happened on your day. Perhaps yet another celebration, however brief and tiny, is just not something that interests you. Perhaps you feel a bit presumptious sharing with us yet again. Perhaps you are embarressed by your own naked need for love and attention. Anyway, happy birthday to the one who is not on the list, which puts me in mind of Harry Potter always referring to the One That Must Not Be Named. I kind of like declaring that I am entitled to the "senior discount" at movie theaters; save a buck and a half a pop. Every day I move closer to the haven and respite of retirement; a blur of activity and work and office and marriage and fixing broken things at my home and movies, movies, and more movies.

Retirement is not a respite. You merely lose the one big excuse you have for getting out of the million things a day that you don't realize you have left undone.

P.S. There is also a "Literaturkalender" on the same wall; maybe, someday, G. Buttkus will qualify to be in it.
P.P.S. Maybe A. Shapiro should be on the Musikkalender.

Yeah, MARCH 8th is quite a day!
Did you know that the first stock car race was on that day in Daytona, Florida in 1936?

Some interesting people were born on that day:
1. Ignacy Lukaswiewicz
2. Oliver Wendall Holmes
3. Lane Savant
4. Sam Jaffe
5. Louise Beavers
6. Claire Trevor
7. Cyd Charisse
8. Alan Hale Jr.
9. Susan Clark
10. Lynn Redgrave
11. Douglas Palmer
12. Pepe Romero
13. Doug Mercer
14. Mickey Dolenz
15. Randy Meisner
16. Aidan Quinn
17. Freddy Prinze Jr.

Some interesting people died on that day as well:
1. Billy Ekstine
2. Joe DiMaggio
3. George Stevens
4. Harold Lloyd

So Saturday, March 8, 2008 came and went, and now 65 is an important number, enit? TRIN was left under your pillow, and Fidelio gave you a ride, and Meredith gave you chores, and the Virus gave you a cold. What the hell more could one mortal crave? And of course, Butch gave you a bad time, and an old broad on SJI sent her love. O lucky man, as they say!
