Egmont, Fidelio, Vodka and Frostbite

Khachaturian's "Bell." also makes me feel not-so-bad about my latest orchestral piece.
I like loud noisy pieces and it's good to know other guys can get away with it.

But It's coming along,
My ex-cello concerto.
Lively and entertaining.
Has a nice beat, you can dance to it.
If you've got an odd number of legs.
Anyway it was a nice concert that the Seattle Philharmonic gave yesterday.
Besides the Khachaturian's "Bell", they played Beethoven's "Egmont" overture and incidental music.
Incidental music sounds a bit odd out of the context of the play, but it's Beethoven so you've got to like it whether you like it or not.

And I do.

I'm going to go downstairs and replace the rear wheel on Fidelio now.
I've got one that has a chain fence on it to keep the chain from jumping and ruining another wheel.
Also, I think the axle is stronger.
The old one is hollow and appears to be bent.
The rear gears have been wobbling for a while.
Which may have some bearing on the chain jumping problem.
Seems to be a strange thing to happen to a bicycle axle.
It also has a wimpy little bolt holding it on.

Gonna fix all that.

See ya on the trail, pilgrim.

Pretty slick of you, sir, not to mention MLK, or Obama, or Bush, or even he "W" political cartoons that I posted over on FFTR today. I guess you were too busy wrenching on Fidelio. She is so fortunate to have you for her Daddy.

2,000,000 people will brave the cold, and stand in for Meredith at the Obama inauguration tomorrow, at 9am, Pacific Time. CNN has nearly hurt themselves covering every piss break Barrack has taken for the last three days, and even with all that hot air, the outside temps are still frigid.

We took the family to see a community theater production of GREATER TUNA on Saturday. It was OK for a couple of talented amateurs, but it made us pine away for the pros who originated it. TUNA, TEXAS, and A TUNA CHRISTMAS were more interesting shows. What it did do was make me fantasize about doing some community theater after I retire; probably don't have the voice or strength or balance for it, but it is a nice fantasy; kind of like the one I have that I could teach a college class of Film if I wanted to; or just spend most of the day writing and blogging and watching my many thousands of movies in my collection.

Got out to see DEFIANCE with Daniel Craig, and DOUBT with Meryl Streep; both good films, worthy of tossing ten bucks on.

How does an author remove a comment? Maybe they preview them first, and then delete them? Man, that is the mystery of the month.

It's here, it's here-the day of inauguration!!! Can you believe it? The honeymoon begins, it is Christmas again, ten birthdays in a row, and New Year's Day all rolled up in one. Perhaps I will get away with taking my student this morning to the day room and watching the swearing in of Barack Obama, a historical icon moment that many of us want to see as it happens, to catalog as an important memory. I had several chuckles this morning looking at the George W. Bush humorous pics and political cartoons I amassed yesterday on FFTR. Feel free to peruse, youse guys.

Christ, it was 25 degrees out this morning, with ice on my windshield. Hell of a way to start such a day, and foggier than a bitch too, with visibility down to 50 feet sometimes, which is great when you are flying along in the dark at 65mph and there are no taillights in front of you to steer on.

I am listening to Classical KING FM, as per usual this morning; thinking of that kind of music, and the fascination of it to modern composers like Dougie. I have always contended that our film composers are the modern classical music artists, that the masters allows composed for events, to illustrate, to set up imagery for the audience, Alex North, Jerry Goldsmith, and others, John Williams, Howard Shore, Nino Rota, James Horner, even Rye Cooder; these men have the ability of the olde time composers, enit?

I wonder how Alex did at her conference in NYC? Maybe got a commission or two, and schmoozed a lot?

My classical stuff never really caught on; never made an album of it, but I did enjoy composing it. Some of it I have successfully channeled to Doug for his career. Wasn't that sweet of me?

In re retirement.
The first thing that hits you as soon as you get tired of sleeping late is all the thousands of things you promised yourself you'd do when you had the time,
only now time is running out.
Just indulge yourself, after a few years you even forget to be pissed off at the world.
